Step 1: Pre-Infusion Cooling

The pre-infusion cooling period is crucial to ensure your scalp temperature is sufficiently lowered. This process should be started approximately 50-60 minutes before your scheduled chemotherapy infusion.

Ensure that the cap fits snugly around your head, making contact with your entire scalp. The cap's Crylon gel will gradually cool your hair follicles, reducing their metabolic activity and putting them into a dormant state.

During this pre-cooling phase, monitor your comfort level. The cap will initially feel very cold, but as your scalp temperature decreases, you should experience a sensation of numbness or tingling.

Step 2: Continuous Cooling During Infusion

Once your scalp has reached the desired temperature, continue wearing the Compassionate Cold Capping cap throughout the duration of your chemotherapy infusion.

To maintain optimal scalp cooling, change the caps every 20-25 minutes. This ensures that the Crylon gel remains consistently cold and effectively protects your hair follicles from the damaging effects of chemotherapy drugs.

During the infusion, monitor the temperature indicator on the cap to ensure it remains within the recommended range. If the indicator turns red, signaling a rise in temperature, replace the cap with a pre-cooled one promptly.

Step 3: Post-Infusion Cooling and Recovery

After completing your chemotherapy infusion, continue wearing the Compassionate Cold Capping cap for an additional period, typically around two hours. This extended cooling period allows your body to effectively dilute and eliminate the chemotherapy toxins from your scalp and bloodstream.

The exact duration of post-infusion cooling may vary depending on the specific chemotherapy drugs you are receiving. Your Penguin rep will provide you with a personalized schedule tailored to your treatment regimen.

During the post-infusion cooling period, continue to monitor your comfort level and the temperature indicator on the cap. Follow the same cap changing procedure as during the infusion to maintain consistent scalp cooling.

By adhering to these three steps and following the personalized instructions provided by your Penguin rep, you can maximize the effectiveness of cold capping therapy and minimize hair loss associated with chemotherapy treatment.
