My Story

Our founder and CEO Ashley Rosser was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 40. As she was explaining what to expect to her three young children, she was heartbroken that her youngest was incredibly fearful that she would lose her hair. He was scared that she “would not look like his mom” and that she would always look sick. She remembers thinking “there has to be a better way”. Thankfully, she learned about cold capping through a social media group. Her medical team was not very familiar with cold capping and its chances of success, especially because she was receiving the aggressive “Red Devil” treatment. But she decided she had to at least try it for her kids.

She was also president of a professional company and wanted to continue meeting with clients without worrying about wearing a wig throughout treatment. She was a registered nurse for ten years and she did a lot of research on the different cold capping options. She chose Penguin because they had been around the longest, their caps’ unique technology allowed the caps to stay cold longer and there were only three caps to switch out. The less complicated the process, the better. Ashley hired a professional capper for her first treatment. The professional capper was able to train her husband for her entire first treatment allowing him to feel confident in his ability to cap her for the rest of her treatments. She maintained approximately 80% of her hair throughout 16 treatments and most importantly she always looked like “mom”. Ashley has made it her mission to help other cancer patients throughout the Philadelphia area maintain their dignity and sense of privacy throughout their journey. Chemotherapy is already invasive enough, losing our hair shouldn’t be the accepted standard in cancer treatment.
